Rui F.P. Pereira (born in 1980) graduated in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Coimbra (Portugal). In 2005 received the BPI/FCTUC award for the best student of 2004/2005. In 2012 finished his PhD on Macromolecular Chemistry, in the University of Coimbra, under the supervision of Artur J.M. Valente
and Hugh D. Burrows, presenting a thesis entitled “Interactions between metal ions and anionic surfactants”. During his research career worked as an investigator in research projects that addressed various topics, going from the fabrication of nanocomposites with high colouration efficiency for electrochromic smart devices (European research project nº FP6-NMP3-CD-2003-505664), to the interactions in polyelectrolyte complexes seen by computational simulation with experimental approach (Portuguese “Foundation for Science and Technology” – PTDC/QUI-QUI/101442/2008), the rational design of hybrid organic-inorganic interfaces towards advanced functional materials (COST Action MP1202) or luminescent electrochromic devices incorporating organic/inorganic (bio)hybrid electrolytes (FCT – PTDC/CTM-NAN/0956/2014).Since 2013, is a postdoctoral researcher at the Chemistry Departments of the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal) and University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (Vila Real, Portugal), working on the synthesis and characterization of multifunctional organic/inorganic hybrid biomaterials, with a special focus on the development of biosystems incorporating ionic liquids. His research interests also include biomineralization, biomimetism, self-assembly, applications of biohybrids in electrochromic devices and batteries, and superhydrophobic materials .
